SUMMER-PROOF YOUR HAIR

Expert advice to help fight frizz and protect hair all summer long

Ah, summer – sun, sea and… dry, frazzled hair!
From the products you pack on holiday to little tips and tricks worth sticking to throughout
the sunny season, we’ve called in Michael Lendon (our Creative Director) to help save us from
those bad hair days.

PROTECT DAILY
Protecting your hair from the sun is an extremely important step in your daily routine, especially on holiday. Most guests are often conscious of protecting their scalp; but, the hair is often forgotten. The sun exposure and salt water can cause damage and leave hair looking dry, particularly if coloured. Using a product like sun care protective hair veil, which is so easy to just spritz all over the hair, will help to protect against UVA/UVB rays.

NOURISH, NOURISH, NOURISH
I always encourage my guests to treat their hair with some extra nourishment throughout the summer to keep it looking healthy, as well as maintaining the vibrancy of colour-treated hair. My absolute favourite for instant, visible repair, is damage remedy™ intensive restructuring treatment, which feeds the hair with amazing quinoa protein – pop it on after a day in the sun and let your hair benefit from some summer loving!

SHAMPOO LESS
When it comes to cleansing hair on holiday I would recommend avoiding shampooing too often during humidity as this can cause the scalp to dry out in the sun and become flaky. Use sun care hair and body cleanser to gently remove chlorine, salt and product residue.

FIGHT FRIZZ
Frizz is a major concern for most of my guests and can be caused by various factors – moisture in the air can cause the hair to expand; dry hair which lacks moisture is more brittle and in turn more prone to frizz; and long showers in hot water and over shampooing can all cause the hair to be stripped of natural oils that help keep frizz at bay.

However, there are many ways to combat it. Using a hydrating and conditioning treatment mask once a week, such as smooth infusion smoothing masque, will not only nourish dry tresses but also help against humidity.

Pre blow-drying, use a smoothing prep such as smooth infusion™ style-prep smoother™ – it contains a plant infusion to help create a smooth surface.

Top tip? Use the nozzle of your hair dryer to direct airflow down the hair shaft to help keep frizz and flyaways to a minimum. If you find blow-drying a little tricky, hold the ends of your hair in sections firmly and blow-dry downwards, you will find that this tension will help to smooth out your tresses to achieve a sleeker finish.
