Most of us have never struggled to get clean water. We simply turn on a faucet or a tap and it runs freely and abundantly. But for 663 million people around the world, this basic need isn’t so easy to find. In honor of World Water Day, March 22, we’re officially kicking off Earth Month 2019 alongside our new partner, charity: water, and we’re ready to make a major impact for clean water in 2019 and beyond. The partnership was first announced by charity: water founder Scott Harrison (pictured) at Aveda Congress in fall of 2018.
Why charity: water? We chose the organization because of its ability to drastically change lives: when a community has access to clean water, it can improve health, increase access to food, grow local economies, and help kids spend more time in school. This helps end the cycle of poverty. Since 2006, charity: water has raised $230M for clean water initiatives, funding over 35,000 water projects and serving 9.5M people. It takes all of us to make a difference, and if we work together, we can provide clean, drinkable water to everyone.
Providing and protecting clean water has been one of our major passions since the early days of Aveda, and we’ve raised funds for water during Earth Month every April since 2007. (Aveda has been celebrating Earth Month for over 20 years, but narrowed the focus to water in 2007.) After all, you couldn’t shampoo your hair or visit the salon without clean water! Aveda employees, salons, Artists and guests like you have joined in our mission, buying limited-edition products, volunteering in their communities and donating to clean water causes around the world.
Ready to join us for Earth Month 2019? Here’s one way you can make a difference: purchasing a limited-edition half-litre of Shampure Hand and Body Wash with special Earth Month packaging! (It’s officially available online 3/29, but we thought you might like a sneak peek.) One hundred percent of your purchase price is donated to charity: water, meaning that one bottle provides one person clean water in one of four countries we source ingredients from: India, Nepal, Madagascar and Ethiopia.
Other ways to get involved this year: join with a local organization that supports clean water in your area, or donate directly to our charity: water fundraising site at charitywater.org/Aveda, where 100% of your gift will directly fund sustainable water projects. We can’t wait to make a BIG difference in 2019 with you by our side.
