As yogis everywhere pack their mats for Wanderlust—the mindful-living weekend getaway, which takes place in Oahu, Hawaii—we caught up with one of our favorite attendees, Kristina Carrillo-Bucaram, to talk Aveda and Asanas. For the uninitiated, the epic event features yoga, music, meditation, dancing, and workshops all aimed at helping attendees feel centered and reach their fullest potential (hence the festival hashtag #findyourtruenorth).

KRISTINA CARRILLO-BUCARAM

LA: What are you most excited about for Wanderlust in February?

KCB: To be a part of a greater community of health and fitness while having fun and meeting other yogis. I am super excited to be in a beautiful place with colorful fruits and veggies, and to share this passion with others! 

LA: How long have you been practicing yoga?
KCB: For about 2 years, though it hasn't been until this last year that I have been dedicated to my practice every single day. I’m really into hot yoga, battis yoga, and acro yoga. Being a long-distance runner has helped me process a lot of frustration and anxiety, and having yoga in my life has made me a healthier person overall.

LA: What do you love about yoga?
KCB: It grounds me, connects me to my body, helps me focus on my breathing, process things in my mind, and move forward. I just LOVE IT! 

LA: What is your favorite yoga pose?
KCB: It changes on the daily, but right now I really love doing half-moon because it stretches my body in all directions! It opens up my chest, legs, and sides.

LA: What is your favorite Aveda product?
KCB: The Rosemary Mint Shampoo because it gives my scalp a nice tingle and I LOVE rosemary! I love the eyeliners as well. They are incredible products.
