Deck your hair with these simple holiday hairstyles

They’re perfect for parties and easy enough for every day

It’s the eternal conundrum: you want to look good for holiday parties and upcoming formal events, but you don’t want to spend a ton of time (or money!) on your hairstyle. You’re busy, but you want to look good too. That’s why we turned to our talented, trusty Aveda Artists for some easy and gorgeous holiday hair looks for company holiday get-togethers, weddings, New Year’s Eve dance parties and more.

MISTLETOE MAGIC

This sweetly stylish chignon by Aveda Artist Timothy Walkinhood sparkles with holiday joy. Here’s how to get the look: First, prep dry hair with Shampure Thermal Dry Conditioner for softness and thermal protection. Curl your hair with a 1” barrel iron, then loosen curls by gently running your hands through your hair — don’t worry about making it look perfect. Do a little back combing at the crown, then gather your hair into a low ponytail, and loop it into a low bun. Pull out a few pieces from the front of your hair to crisscross around the bun and pin into place. Finish with Air Control or Control Force hair spray (use the latter if you want extra strong hold) and add a little holiday glam with a sprig of holly or some mistletoe. “Remember, the look is supposed to be soft and romantic, so nothing needs to be perfectly placed or too tight,” Timothy says.

JOY TO THE CURLS

Aveda Artist Andrea gave her model glorious curls for an Aveda Jam event. Here’s how she got the look: Prep wet hair by spraying with with Pure Abundance Style-Prep and Volumizing Tonic at the crown for extra volume. Add a little Confixor gel for shiny, medium hold, then dry hair. Andrea used a Beachwaver iron to create each curl, then pinned and let the curls cool for about 15 minutes. Unwrap each curl, spraying hair with Air Control hair spray and Shampure Dry Shampoo to give hair body and reduce frizz. Then, use a tail comb and your fingers to pick apart the curls until they’re the desired thickness and texture. For a finishing touch, pump a bit of Light Elements Smoothing Fluid into your hand and scrunch into the hair.

A PERFECT PONYTAIL

Aveda Artist Sarah Naslund created this gorgeous, full pony for holiday parties, and it’s super easy to achieve at home. Prep your hair with Dry Remedy Daily Moisturizing Oil or Light Elements Smoothing Fluid. Section your hair into three sections and secure the middle section with an elastic. Wrap the side sections around your middle section, then join them underneath with an elastic. Divide that pony into three sections and repeat the process again, then finish with Brilliant hair spray for shine and hold.

PUT A BOW ON IT

Upgrade your go-to braids and ponytails with a scarf for a touch of fun. Pro tip: Hit up secondhand shops and vintage stores for unique printed scarves of all lengths and fabrics so you can easily mix things up. We love how Aveda Artist Lisa at Sloane’s Bespoke Hair gave this simple braid a boost with a printed scarf.

GLAM NATURAL CURLS

Curls this gorgeous deserve to be the highlight of your holiday party look. Aveda Artist Jennifer van Vugt at Lilou Hudsons Bay salon enhanced her stunning natural curls with Be Curly Curl Enhancer to intensify curl, add shine and fight frizz. If you’ve got waves or curls, apply Curl Enhancer to damp hair, then dry naturally or diffuse for added volume and definition — and party-ready curl power.
