4 MUST-KNOW WINTER

HAIR AND MAKEUP LOOKS

TWO EXPERT AVEDA ARTISTS SHARE THE TRENDS

Searching for some new-season inspiration? Fresh hair and makeup ideas help brighten even the grayest of winter days with a bit of excitement. For the latest 2020 Winter trends, we turned to Ian Michael Black, our Global Artistic Director of Hair Color, and Janell Geason, Global Artistic Director of Makeup. They’re sharing all you need to know to achieve the season’s inspiring looks, including which vegan products to use.

4 winter hair and makeup looks to love

1. MUTED GOLDS

Topping Ian’s list of 2020 hair trends are the season’s exquisite pale golds. “These warmer shades are perfect for colder months when we might not have that ‘summer glow’,” Ian tells us. He was inspired by nostalgic photos of the ‘70s where blondes show off a gentle, warm tone.

To achieve the look, blondes should tell their Aveda Colourist that they’d like their hair to be a light golden blonde colour. Our vegan Aveda hair colour is formulated without synthetic glycols, phthalates, BHT, kathon, nitro dyes, parabens or petrolatum. It’s also a minimum 93% naturally derived* and cruelty free, to align with our mission of caring for the Earth. Ian recommends lighter brunettes tell their Aveda Artist that they’d like a medium golden blonde shade, with both warm and cool tones.

You can use our salon finder to find an Aveda hair colour salon near you. To help strengthen hair during your appointment, add on our botanical repair colour treatment to your colour service. You’ll leave with colour-treated hair that feels stronger, looks smoother and shinier.

2. DEEP BERRY TONES

“For those with naturally darker hair colour, deep berry shades are the thing for winter,” Ian says. Inspired by a feeling of coziness, Ian says this trend can range from a hint of blueberry for a cooler tone to a rich raspberry hue for a warmer shade. These hues offer a subtle pick-me-up for darker shades, and will reflect beautifully in the light. If you have darker hair, he suggests asking for a dark red violet shade.

Not sure which hue is right for you? Try out Ian’s picks on our Virtual Colour Tool, right at home. This hair colour tool offers endless hair colour ideas and lets you experiment with 64 different shades in blonde, brunette, red and vibrant colours, all from your computer. By using your computer’s camera or simply uploading a photo, you’ll find the hair colour that’s best suited for you.

3. FEATHERY STATEMENT BROWS

“I love a perfectly sculpted brow, but I equally love a brushed-up, feathered brow,” Janell tells us. If you’re just beginning to return to your makeup routine, starting with a naturally lush brow feels effortless. To achieve the look, Janell recommends using the multi-tasking brow definer. This essential tool uses a 100% naturally derived* vegan formula of botanical waxes and minerals to shape brows with long-lasting colour.

JFirst, Janell uses the pencil end to fill in brows and add a bit of color for a fuller effect. Then she brushes them up with the spoolie at the end to get that feathery look and feel. “Think fluffy, with arches that are softly blended,” she tells us.

Janell recommends picking your definer colour based on your natural brow colour, or you can go darker for a more dramatic look. For lighter brows, try Light Blonde or Dark Blonde, and for darker brows pick either the Light Brown or Dark Brown shades.

4. FRESH-FACED BEAUTY

Janell is seeing a return to soft, more natural makeup looks that are easy to wear. “All you need are makeup staples: neutral eyeshadow, mascara, a warm blush or bronzer and a muted, glossy lip,” Janell tells us.

She recommends our petal essence eye colour trios for subtle eye makeup looks. These palettes each contain three complementary colours. We formulated them with aromatic flower waxes from the petals of jasmine and the leaves of geranium to create a super-soft texture and floral aroma.

Janell likes the neutral colours in the Gobi Sands, Golden Jasper or Copper Haze palettes. The deeper shades in these trios beautifully accentuate darker skin tones, while lighter complexions should use the softest colours.

Follow the eyeshadow with our thickening mosscara, which adds rich colour from roots to tips with a blend of Iceland moss and plant extracts. Choose either the Black Forest or Earth shade, depending on the colour of your lashes.

For blush, Janell uses our petal essence face accents in Peach Lights for lighter complexions. These makeup palettes contain three blendable, buildable shades, and like our eye colour trios, are created with aromatic flower waxes for a petal-soft texture.

For deeper complexions, she uses our 100% naturally derived* uruku bronzer. These makeup colour duos are formulated with ingredients from the uruku shrub. Janell uses the Amazonia or Brilliant Sun palettes for deeper skin tones.

To finish this look, swipe on one of the glimmery feed my lips shimmer toppers from the holiday limited edition shimmer topper duo set.98% naturally derived, * these vegan lip glosses smooth, plump and provide all-day moisture to lips. Both the Rose Gold and the Gold shades work for all complexions, but Janell loves the Gold colour on deeper skin tones.
